A review of Council's positive ageing strategy in 2011/12 led to the establishment of a forum to represent the needs and interests of people in the Community aged 65 and over.

The Kawerau Seniors Forum is a non-politically aligned group which provides two-way communication and engagement with older people about Council policies and plans. The members of the Seniors Forum and their contact details are:

Objectives of the Seniors Forum
- Advocate and act as a reference or advisory group in the development of relevant Council policies and plans ensuring that the requirements of our senior and disabled residents are taken into account.
- Communicate to senior and disabled citizens in the District details on resources and developments of benefit to this group.
- Research and identify issues of concern to aged and disabled people and represent or
- advocate on their behalf.
- To help us help you, please let us know of your concerns within the town that you believe are not age or disability friendly. For example, our on-going survey of footpaths and paving will benefit from any advice you can give us about areas that you feel need attention.
