Coming back to Kawerau - Thursday 15th February 2018. Have a passion you want to share with others? A special talent, interest or idea? Then be a ‘PechaKucha 20 x 20 Night’ presenter.
PechaKucha Nights are informal and fun gatherings where passionate people get together and share their ideas, works, thoughts, holiday snaps -- just about anything, really -- in the PechaKucha 20x20 format.
PechaKucha 20x20 is a simple presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds. The images advance automatically and you talk along to the images.
It’s easy to be a presenter. All you need to do is come up with an idea/ topic, select 20 images or pictures for your presentation, prepare your presentation, deliver the images to the event organiser, Wendy at the library and turn up on the night ready to present. The images will be inserted into the presentation format by the event organiser. You don’t have to worry about the technical stuff at all and if you’re having trouble with your presentation, Wendy will be happy to help you with it. Anyone can present -- this is the beauty of PechaKucha Nights. Some PechaKuchas tell great stories about a project or a trip. Some are incredibly personal, some are incredibly funny, but all are very different, and they turn each PechaKucha Night into “a box of chocolates.” Our first PechaKucha Night entertained 50 people with presentations on dragon boating, cycle touring, PTSD, Life Coaching, the horror of war and so much more.
What makes for a good PechaKucha presentation? Here are a few helpful tips that we feel every presenter should keep in mind.
- Make your presentation about what you love, it makes talking in front of a group much easier.
- Be aware that 20 seconds can feel short for some and long for others -- and reading from a piece of paper is not the answer, presenting should feel natural. Remember – fun and informal.
- The best presentations use strong visuals, with a minimum of text.
- Full framed images (with no margins) are better.
- Don’t have 20 images? It’s not the end of the world if you have to repeat a couple.
- Get the images to the organiser well before the event, at least 2 weeks or she might bite.
